Weight restriction in place on SR 42 bridge over Cataract Lake

Friday, June 6, 2014

CATARACT -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists that a weight limit restriction of 13 tons has been placed on the State Road 42 bridge over Cataract Lake.

Typically, cars, mini-vans and pickup trucks are under the 13-ton weight limit, INDOT officials noted.

Based upon a structural analysis review of the bridge, INDOT has determined that vehicles weighing 13 tons are not allowed to travel on this bridge.

The conditions of the bridge have warranted placing the weight restriction on this bridge. Signs displaying "Weight Limit 13 Tons" are posted on both sides of the bridge and at the intersections of SR 42 with State Road 59 and State Road 142.

Vehicles heavier than 13 tons are advised to use an alternate route.

A repair contract is being developed by INDOT, and as soon as a timeline is known for construction it will be released.
