A n' J bowl is no unknown site in Putnam County.

It's also no stranger to giving back to the Greencastle area. In the past it's been able to work with DePauw university, the Relay for Life, and the South Putnam wresting team among other organizations all to help raise money and awareness in Putnam County.

On Sunday Garry and Valerie Waters coordinated efforts with Alex McHugh, the administrative assistant with the West Central Fellowship of Christian Athletes, to put on a Celebrity Bowling Bash, with the proceeds benefiting FCA.

"It's a good thing, Valerie Waters said. "It gives you a good feeling inside when you can help out. Everybody needs something positive."

Valerie and Garry Waters lost their son Army PFC James A. Waters, who died of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit while he served in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, on July 1 2011.

The Waters wanted to make sure they honored his sacrifice by making the bowling alley a tribute, and using it as a benefit for others.

Among the celebrities that attended were former Indianapolis Colts player and Super Bowl champion John Standeford, Indianapolis Colts player Delano Howell, former Indianapolis Colts player Gijon Robinson, Deaf Olympics World Record holder Josh Hembrough, and Christian rap artist Blake Whiteley.

"I think it's good to get out here and see people having a good time," Robinson said. "It's a big deal toward inspiring people to get together and praise God."

While the celebrities and locals bowled, FCA and West Central Area Director Brad Long handed out raffle prizes and each of the celebrity bowlers had a chance to talk to the young athletes that were in attendance.

"I'm having a lot of fun," Howell said in between his matches, "It's great to help out, give support and meet some great people."

Howell went on to explain the goal when participating on an event such as this.

"Just to share my story," Howell said. "To tell how God has blessed me along my journey through the NFL."

Garry Waters said this was the first time A n' J Bowl has worked with the FCA but would gladly work with them again and anyone else committed to helping the Greencastle community.
