Sargent named lacrosse head coach; Marousek joins DPU staff

Julie Sargent, DePauw's interim women's lacrosse head coach since September, has been named the program's head coach.

Sargent directed the Tigers to a 3-10 record in 2014 including a 2-6 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference games in the program's second year of varsity competition. The 2012 Carthage College graduate joined the DePauw staff as an assistant coach in the program's inaugural season of 2012-13. Sargent was a four-year starter and all-conference player at Carthage.

Joining the staff as a graduate assistant is Alie Marousek who graduated last month from Wittenberg University.

Marousek earned a bachelor of science degree and majored in biology while serving as a captain and playing midfield for the Tigers.

A first team Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region selection this year, Marousek earned similar honors in 2012. This season she was second on the team with 45 goals and 70 total points and third with 25 assists.

Additionally, she earned all-NCAC honors three times in her career and was the league's newcomer of the year in 2012 after transferring from Roanoke College. Marousek has served as a club lacrosse coach with various programs dating back to 2009.

"I'm excited for the future of the women's lacrosse program," Stevie Baker-Watson, DePauw's Theodore Katula Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports said.

"The combination of Julie's experience with the program and Alie's extensive playing and coaching background gives the team the potential to continue its growth."
