Roachdale Summerfest

Summerfest 2014 brought friends and families to Roachdale from as far away as New York for its annual celebration, complete with the Roachdale Roach Race. Alisha Laffin (above) of Heritage Lake isn't just embarking on her fist year as a high school varsity coach this year, she also got to race her first roach, despite being apprehensive to touch her racer.

Summerfest volunteer and long-time Roachdale resident Joyce Rust helps keep an eye on roaches during the second heat of the roach race with help from a young boy watching to see if his roach would win.

In the end, Garrett Fulwider was the big winner, capturing all four heats of the roach race this year, marking not only his first visit to Summerfest, but also his first roach race win.
