Apostrophe Art's featured artist, Sims, a Greencastle native, attended Anderson University where she received her bachelor's of fine arts in psychology and fine art. She then went on to earn a master's in fine arts from the New York Studio School.

Sims has exhibited her work in New York and was recently part of the William Louis Dreyfus Collection in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. Following post-gradate studies, she moved back to Indiana.

"I paint what I see," Sims said. "I paint landscapes and objects I'm attracted to."

Sims will remain as the Apostrophe Art Space's resident painter throughout September. If unable to make the First Friday gallery opening, the community is invited to visit at any time.

She will also be holding Kids Collaborative Art sessions on Saturdays in July, starting on the 12th from 10-11 a.m. in the studio during the Farmers Market.

Children can learn about an artist and the process of making art along with working on both a small painting to take home and a large-scale collaborative painting to be shown at the gallery.

"I really loved being in New York and getting an education there," Sims said. "Growing up here, I think it's important that children be exposed to artists because I was an artistic kid and I didn't see that art could be a profession really. I think if I was a kid and I saw that then that would have been important for me."

The cost is $20 per session and interested participants can RSVP by emailing Sims at hollyruthsims@gmail.com.

Meanwhile, photographer Cooper attended Savannah College of Art and Design where he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography.

From there, he moved to Colorado traveling to several other states, including Alaska and the lower 48 followed by several trips to Canada before moving back to Indiana.

Cooper enjoys photographing old and broken-down objects and buildings, the environment, people, automotive and light and he enjoys seeing depth, richness and a story in his work.
