George Richard Owen, 90, of Indianapolis, formerly of Greencastle and Fillmore, after many years of debilitating illnesses, drew his last breath on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Richard was born on Aug. 21, 1923 and grew up in Fillmore, the son of George and Hazel (Garrett) Owen.

Having many boyhood jobs of mowing lawns for 10 cents a yard, baling hay and shucking corn with his mentor, Marion Sears, he enjoyed the outdoors.

His adult employment began at the Greencastle Zinc Mill, Stewart Warner's and Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis, retiring from there after 35 years.

He was a member of the Greencastle Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanne (Cummings) Owen; an infant brother, Owen; his brother, Robert, to World War II; a sister, Madonna, and son-in-law Marc Hood.

Survivors are his daughters, Linda Owen and Deb Meadows; granddaughter and care-giver, Ashley Entwistle; grandson Owen Hobein; great-grandchildren Alaina and A.J. Nunez and future grandson-in-law James Mitchell.

Masonic services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, followed by funeral services at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
