State Road 42 closed in Clay County just west of SR 59

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

State Road 42 is closed in Clay County 1.5 miles west of State Road 59.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced the closure Tuesday morning after the westbound lane of the road collapsed.

Due to heavy rains that moved through the area, twin pipe structures have eroded on the north side of S.R. 42, causing the collapse.

The closure will remain in place until a determination has been made Wednesday regarding repairs.

INDOT crews have set up a detour that will follow S.R. 59 north to I-70 westbound to U.S. 40/S.R. 46 and then back north to S.R. 42. Traffic traveling in the opposite direction are to use this same detour in reverse.
