County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:35 a.m. on Thursday, Dillon Anthony-DeWayne Dotts, 20, Indianapolis, was arrested on a probation violation.

At 8:23 p.m., Ted Harris, 32, Indianapolis, was charged with a probation violation.

At 9:20 p.m., Derek Wayne Mason, 28, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

* At 12:24 a.m. on Friday, Stephen Lee Welker, 39, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 2:15 a.m., Tonya Lynn Anderson, 30, Greencastle, was charged with a probation violation.

At 4 p.m., Dallas Zachary Scales, 32, Greencastle, was charged with theft.

At 7:30 p.m., Christopher Robert Gainor, 31, Port Heron, Mich., was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 10:20 p.m., Elaine Carol Venable, 56, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 3:32 a.m. on Saturday, Landon Tyler Smith, 25, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:30 p.m., Charles Davis Ryan Hargett, 27, Indianapolis, was arrested for fraud.

* At 2:58 a.m. on Sunday, Amy Marie Moss, 31, Kokomo, was charged with possession of methamphetamines, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

* At 7:10 p.m. on Monday, Lashyrl Green McGuire, 59, Henderson, Ky., was charged with possession of cocaine.

At 8:46 p.m., Donald Ferguson McCormick, 31, Greencastle, was charged with public intoxication and resisting law enforcement.

At 11 p.m., Joshua Allen Sebastian, 23, Greencastle, was arrested for battery, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 10:50 a.m. on Monday, June 30, Samantha Langley, 18, Center Point, was traveling northbound on County Road 775 West, just north of County Road 1050 South.

Langley advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that she swerved her 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT2 to avoid a vehicle, driven by Daniel Phelps, Reelsville that was pulling out of a driveway.

Phelps advised Pettit that he was pulling out of his drive at 10424 S. C.R. 775 West, but he stopped with the nose of his vehicle partially in the roadway. As a result, Langley then struck a mailbox on the east side of the road.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

At 11:59 a.m., Mark E. Abernathy, 55, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 450 North approaching a curve in the roadway.

Abernathy advised Sgt. Craig Sibbitt that he was not able to negotiate the curve and left the roadway on the north side of the curve. After leaving the roadway, Abernathy's 2011 Chevrolet 2SK continued into a deep ditch.

Abernathy later advised he had fallen asleep, causing the accident.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 12:30 p.m., Jacob King, 21, Greencastle, was traveling east on State Road 240 just east of County Road 700 East in a 2014 Ford F150. Meanwhile, Ben Veach, 53, Greencastle, was traveling west on State Road 240 just east of County Road 700 East in a 2005 Dodge Ram.

King advised Pettit that he was traveling near the center line of the the road causing the mirrors to strike each other as both vehicles passed each other.

After impact, debris from one of the mirrors struck Lauren Thomas's, 33, Danville, 2014 Honda Pilot in the front windshield.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 2:46 p.m., Zachary D. Godsey, 25, Knightsville, was southbound on State Road 243 South approaching a curve in the roadway.

Godsey advised Sibbbitt he left the roadway on the west side and came to final rest on the tractor trailers' side, spilling the a load of stone.

Sibbitt noted that it appeared the crash was caused by unsafe speed and the trailer being top heavy due to the yaw marks on the roadway for approximately 50 yards prior to the tractor leaving the roadway.

State Road 243 was closed for a long period of time due to trying to upright the 2014 Kenworth T880 tractor-trailer.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 6:35 a.m. on Thursday, Abdikadir J. Dorshe, 43, Amarillo, Texas, had attempted to pull off to the right side of the ramp onto Interstate 70 East to sleep.

Dorshe advised Deputy Adam Hull that when he woke up and attempted to enter the drive lane of the off ramp, his 2007 Freightliner CST120 owned by Gurjot Corporation of Fresno, Calif, slid off the roadway and rolled onto its side.

Dorshe complained of pain in his rib and back area and was transported to Putnam County Hospital for evaluation.

Damage was estimated at $50,001-$100,000.

At 3:42 p.m., Brian C. Willett, 21, Bloomington, was traveling on U.S. 231 South near State Road 42 in a 2005 Saturn Relay.

Willett advised Hull that he didn't see Joseph M. Robertson, 21, Bloomington, in a 2002 Hyundai Sonata as he went to enter traffic until it was too late to avoid contact.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:06 p.m. on Friday, Chelsea M. Pell, 21, Muncie, was traveling northbound on Manhattan Road near Phoenix Closures when a vehicle operated by April N. Sult, 29, Fillmore, pulled out from a driveway into her course of travel.

Pell advised Deputy Kyle Gibbons that she was unable to avoid a collision and made impact with Sult's 1993 Honda Accord.

As a result of the collision, Pell suffered front-end damage to her 2011 Hyundai, while Sult suffered left side damage to her vehicle.

Injured as a result of the accident were Sult and her daughter. Sult complained of slight rib pain and her daughter complained of right arm pain. Both Sult and her daughter received medical attention prior to completing a statement of release in regard to their injuries.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 4:56 a.m. on Sunday, Thomas N. Suddarth, 18, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 825 East when he slowed to make a 90-degree turn onto County Road 525 North.

Reserve officer Rick Lambert advised that Suddarth lost control of the 2005 Ford Explorer XLT while executing the turn, which caused him to leave the roadway and strike a ditch.

Suddarth's vehicle then exited the ditch and came to rest on a private drive off the roadway. The vehicle appeared to suffer left side body damage, possible damage to the steering/under carriage and minor damage to the vehicle roof.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Daniel A. Owens, 46, Reelsville, was traveling northbound on County Road 725 West just south of County Road 850 South. Meanwhile, Carlos S. Hawkins, 73, Reelsville, was traveling southbound on County Road 725 West, just south of County Road 850 South.

Pettit stated Owens was traveling left of center rounding a curve, causing Hawkins to veer his 2005 Ford F250 to the right and partially off the roadway.

Owens' 1995 Ford F350 sideswiped Hawkins, causing damage to both driver's side front fender areas.

Owens was charged with operating while intoxicated.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to four medical assists and numerous calls this week.

* At 9:35 p.m. Friday, June 27, GFD responded to an alarm at 98 N. 10th Street. No fire was detected.

* At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29, GFD was called to 821 Indianapolis Rd. to investigate a short-circuit issue at Kroger, no fire or immediate thread was found.

* At 3:16 p.m. Sunday, June 29, GFD was dispatched to the Putnam County Hospital at 1542 S. Bloomington St. for a fire alarm, no fire was detected.

* At 11:37 a.m. Monday, June 30, GFD responded to a fire alarm at Starbucks, located at 6 E. Washington St., no fire was detected.

* At 12:15 p.m. Monday, June 30, GFD was sent to investigate an arcing powerline at 2599 S. C.R. 150 West, Duke energy was contacted to resolve the issue.

* At 12:46 p.m. Monday, June 30, GFD was dispatched to 410 Anthony St. to extinguish a residential fire caused by lightning.

* At 2:06 p.m. Monday, June 30, GFD responded to a residential fire alarm at 1715 N. C.R. 175 West, no fire was detected.
