Area 30 on track to start the 2014-15 school year

Thursday, July 10, 2014

The Area 30 Career Center Board met for its monthly meeting on Tuesday morning to take care of several routine issues as it continues to prepare for the beginning of the school year.

Director Lora Busch came before the board to seek approval to increase the lunch cost by 10 cents to $2.60 for the 2014-15 school year.

"That is a formula that they give all of us," South Putnam Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt said. "If our lunch prices are too low it actually requires us to raise our price to that formula price."

The new price is based on the Paid Lunch Equity requirement set by the state.

As is done yearly, Busch again came before the board and gained approval to appoint Larry J. Gesse as its attorney and Cindy Burnham as its treasurer.

The board also approved Eminence Superintendent Terry Terhune as the Area 30 Board president, Greencastle Superintendent Dawn Puckett as vice president and North Putnam Superintendent Dan Noel as secretary.

The board also approved the hiring of Jenelle Kunz for student attendance reporting. Kunz, who is already on staff for adult education, will be working 7 additional hours a week.

Following the announcement from Gov. Mike Pence last week in regard to Area 30 being awarded $82,500 in grant funding from the Center for Education and Career Innovation, Busch also informed the board that it received a $5,000 donation from Crown Equipment Corporation for its WIRED program.

Area 30 will hold its student registration on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The next Area 30 Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 9 a.m.
