Baird to speak to Defenders of Liberty Monday

Rep. Jim Baird will be the speaker for the July meeting of the Greencastle Defenders of Liberty, which is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Putnam County Airport Dixie Chopper Business Center.

Baird will give a legislative update.

A lifelong resident of and Putnam County, Baird was elected in November 2010 and is currently in his second term representing House District 44.

At the Statehouse, Baird is a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation.

Baird holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University, along with a doctorate from the University of Kentucky. A farmer by trade, he also owns a home healthcare agency.

Baird served as a Putnam County Commissioner prior to his election to the House of Representatives. He continues to serve as an active member of numerous organizations including VFW, American Legion, Indiana Farm Bureau, OCS 2-70, The National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Purdue Dean of Agriculture's Advisory Council.

He has also served his community in several other capacities, such as president, board member, and volunteer of organizations such as the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. He was president of the Board of Directors of a mental health provider and the Rotary Club.

Baird is married to his high school sweetheart Danise. They are the proud parents of three children, all graduates of Purdue University.

The Defenders of Liberty meet on the second Monday of each month at the Putnam County Airport. The public is invited to this and all meetings.
