Final ParkFest to feature trio of young acts Tuesday

Sunday, July 27, 2014

The last official ParkFest of 2014 is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 at the Bob Flanigan Bandshell at Robe-Anne Park in Greencastle.

Tuesday will be teen night, featuring a trio of young artists -- Carly Rhine, Haley Jonay and The October Scene.

The food vendor for the event will be Humble Pie and sponsors will be Friends of the Park, Hometown Dental and the Greencastle Civic League.

Carly Rhine is a singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist from Greencastle. Her original music falls under the umbrella of indie artists. She debuted herfirst collection of original music in January 2013, titled "Simply Me,"

The 18-year-old grew up surround by music.

"My dad is a professional drummer and during my younger days was a part of Forever the Tribute, a Beatles tribute band, who toured nationwide," Rhine said. "He, of course, played the part of Ringo Starr and from time to time I was known to sit on Ringo's knee and sing along to 'Yellow Submarine.'

"Growing up in this musical environment inspired me to pick up the violin at the young age of five, which led to the piano and my current love -- the guitar," she said. "I also loved singing and began performing onstage at local venues by the time I was in eighth grade."

Rhine currently performs original music as well as covers, including songs from the 1960s to today's hits, at several venues throughout Indiana. She is back in the studio working on a full-length album featuring several new original tunes, which will be finished this fall.

Jonay became a "professional" musician at an extremely young age. At five years old she was putting on concerts in her living room for her family. Admission was a nickel.

Eleven years later she is playing to crowds of hundreds everywhere from the Simply Music Festival to the Indiana State Fair.

Jonay has been singing since she was a toddler and writing songs since her childhood. She taught herself to play piano when she was nine and guitar at age 11.

The October Scene is a Greencastle-based five-piece alternative band featuring Logan Beck, Lucas Eckrich, Taulbee Jackson, Jacob Kessler and Chase Chew.

They describe themselves as "five dudes who just like to do what they love best."

Their interests include being ninjas, doing fun stuff, playing shows, fixing computers and recording in the Groove Shack.
