Sunday, August 3, 2014

For the seventh year, the annual National Night Out event will help provide Putnam County youth with school supplies and information about available county programs.

The free event is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Robe-Ann Park in Greencastle. Rain date for the event is Thursday, Aug. 7.

This year's event will give local students and families a night out to obtain supplies for the upcoming school year.

Registration for the event will begin around 5 p.m. Students and families must sign up at one of two locations in the park in order to collect school supplies and participate in activities.

With assistance from several local organizations National Night Out will feature giveaways, free swimming from 6-8 p.m. and free refreshments for students and their families.

Interactive games are planned for the entire family, along with a scavenger hunt added this year that once completed will result in youngsters receiving a basic bag of school supplies.

The annual event will highlight many of Putnam County's law enforcement, social services and public service programs and events that help support youth of the community.

Everyone is welcome to attend the National Night Out event. Families with children in elementary or middle school are particularly encouraged to attend.
