Donald C. Cross

Donald C. Cross, 89, of Dayton, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.

Born Aug. 14, 1924 in Bridgeport, Ill., he was the son of Chauncey and Molly Gertrude (Knott) Cross.

He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and had attended Indiana Business College.

He married Opal Marie (Littrell) on Dec. 24, 1947, and she survives.

Rev. Cross had been a minister for more than 40 years, having founded, built and served as pastor at the Missionary Free Christian Church in Indianapolis.

He had also worked at Crown Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Indianapolis for more than 28 years. After retirement he was called to serve as pastor for the Quincy (Ind.) Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Marie Cross; a son, James A. (Linda) Cross; a daughter, Marsha K. (Dave) Meyer; five grandchildren, Meghan (Matt) Krueger, Andrew Cross, Sarah Cross, Corben Meyer and Connor Meyer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Don Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Little Walnut Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends from noon on Monday, Aug. 11 until time of service at the funeral home.
