City Police

A dirt bike rider was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday night at State Road 240 and Fillmore Road on Greencastle's East Side, City Police reported.

A 1996 Toyota pickup, driven by Bradley Stout, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240, turning north onto Fillmore Road, when a dirt bike, ridden by Michael Anderson, 20, Greencastle, collided with the truck, Officer Eric Vaughan reported.

Vaughan, who was on patrol just north of the intersection monitoring traffic, said Anderson sustained a possible broken wrist and other injuries and was taken to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance.

Stout told police he did not see the dirt bike because of its lack of lights. He said he started to make his left turn, and the next thing he knew, the biker was lying in the bed of his truck.

Anderson said the throttle stuck on the dirt bike and he could not avoid the

9:57 p.m. collision.

As a result of the accident, Anderson received three citations from Officer Vaughan. He was ticketed for operating without receiving a license, operating without financial responsibility (no insurance) and failure to register a vehicle.

Sheriff's Dept.

One recent property-damage accident was investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 9:37 p.m. on Thursday, Russell R. Pollock, 80, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 350 North.

Pollock advised Deputy Mike Downing that, due to the bright lights coming from James D. Childers, 42, Solsberry, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, he was unaware he had drifted left of center.

Pollock added that he tried to correct his 2013 Chevrolet to avoid a collision, but was unable to and struck the mirror and boat trailer of Childers' vehicle.

Childers advised Downing that he was eastbound on County Road 350 North when Pollock approached from the east, reportedly crossing left of center nearly two feet.

Childers added that he swerved to try and avoid a collision, but was unable to due to the guardrail of the bridge.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
