Family offers thanks for caring community

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Dear Greencastle, Putnam County:

On June 23 tragedy struck our family. My nephew, Riley Sutherlin, was killed in a farming accident.

Living in Texas and being 1,100 miles away, this big sister could not get to Indiana fast enough.

When we finally arrived in Greencastle I found my sister and her family surrounded by the wonderful people of Putnam County. Not only were you taking excellent care of them, but you adopted the extended family and began taking care of us, too.

We were blessed to be able to return for fair week. Once again I watched in awe as we witnessed your love, support and friendship.

I will never be able to thank everyone who has touched our family over the past month. The first responders, family and friends who arrived immediately after the accident and stayed as long as they were needed. Everyone who came and made sure everything on the farm was taken care of, and everyone who continues to pray for and with us. All the food, hugs, and love shown will never be forgotten.

The days, months and years ahead without our sweet handsome Riley will be hard for all of us but I know his family will be forever in your embrace.

Thank you from the bottom of this big sister's heart. May God bless each of you.
