The Greencastle Middle School cheerleaders made history this summer while competing in the 2014 Indiana State Fair cheerleading contest.

The preliminary portion of the Junior High/High School cheerleading competition was conducted on Saturday morning, Aug. 9 at the Grandstands at the Indiana State Fair. The five top teams from each division moved on to compete in the finals that same evening.

Making it to the finals was the Greencastle team goal as last year the girls were disappointed in not making the finals. This group of talented young ladies decided that the top five wouldn't do as GMS captured second in the Junior High Division.

Second place is now the highest placement for a Greencastle team -- at either the middle school or high school level -- since Greencastle started competing at the State Fair in approximately 2003.

The GMS cheerleaders are coached by Lindsay (Fisher) Wagner, a former GHS cheerleader who was a competitor at the State Fair cheer contest herself.
