CLOVERDALE-- With weather putting a hold on South Putnam's road trip to Southmont on Wednesday, the Eagles took to Clover Meadows to host Greencastle and Danville Thursday night.

Neither visiting school proved to be kind guests as the Tiger Cubs ran away with a 197-234-259 win over the Warriors and hosts.

Lauren Bridgewater eked past Danville's Makynzie Harding for medalist honors, shooting 44 while the Warrior golfer carded a 45.

Lokysa Scheuermann was not far behind with a round of 46, followed by Macey Masten's 51, Haley Cash's 56 and Lindsey Bridgewater's 61.

Greencastle head coach Bob Hedge was pleased with the fact that the squad dropped its score for a second straight round.

"I thought Lauren played well and had a chance to go lower than (44) today," Hedge said. "Lokysa had another steady round for us and Macey played another solid round.

"I was really happy for Haley Cash because last time we were on this course, she shot in the 70s. She came in at (56) and I was proud of her for that.

"Lindsey had a really bad start but over the last five holes, she played really well," Hedge added.

Alicia Haywood led the way for the hosts with a 53 while Carlee Schlatter coming in on 62, Kristi Wood shot 70 and Israel Polster chipped in a round of 74.

South Putnam head coach Kevin Metz noted that the squad, through three matches, was playing close rounds each time out.

"We've been consistent over the first three matches," Metz said. "Our team score has been within a couple of strokes each time out.

"Alicia has been playing well for us. She had a couple of bad holes but knows she can play better and will strive to improve herself.

"Carlee struggled a little bit tonight," Metz added. "I know she wanted to be a little bit lower today but that's the game of golf."

Next week will prove stern tests to both squads as Greencastle hosts Plainfield and South Putnam takes on Terre Haute South Monday.

The Braves represent a sizable challenge for the Eagles but Metz said that the squad would use the opportunity to learn and get more match play under their belts.

"The younger girls are picking up on things that other players are doing," Metz said. "We've seen a couple of good teams already this season and the girls were nervous in those opening matches.

"They are starting to get more confident, though, and while the scores maybe aren't showing the improvement they are making in practice, they're making strides.

"Israel was better with her putting today. Kristi is making better contact each day. It's slow progress but everyone is making strides every time they are on the course."

Hedge wanted to see the squad continue to build on their good week of play as the Tiger Cubs hit the midway point of their season.

"This makes two rounds in-a-row that we've lowered our scores," Hedge said. "We'll see how things go when we host a pretty good Plainfield team next week.

"It's a good sign when scores are going down and we're trying to build momentum going into the second half of the season with the county, conference and sectionals approaching."
