Taste of Putnam County event on the menu for Saturday, Sept. 20

The fifth annual Taste of Putnam County is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce has announced.

The 4-8 p.m. event will again be staged at the Dixie Chopper Business Center at the Putnam County Airport on Ballard Lane off State Road 240.

"This is the fifth year for this growing community event," Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Johnson said, "and we are very excited about this year's Taste."

Taste participants for 2014 will be Almost Home, Asbury Towers, Autumn Glen, Bert and Betty's Kitchen, Bon Appetit, Charlie's (Serving Beefcake Burgers), Cinnamon Girls Bakery, Mill Pond Health Campus, McDonald's, Moore's Bar and Grill, Sweet Wishes by Eitel's Florist and The Waters of Greencastle.

All will be bringing food for the public to sample, and at the end of the event attendees will have an opportunity to vote for the "Best Food" of the evening. The winner will take home the Taste of Putnam County Traveling Plaque to display for the next year.

Tickets for admission to the Sept. 20 Taste of Putnam County are $5 per person (food tickets are $1 each, and can be purchased at the event. No food item will be more than three tickets and most are one or two tickets. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of September at the Chamber of Commerce office, 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, and Dixie Chopper Business Center. They can also be purchased that night at The Taste.

Along with the lots of tasty Putnam County food, the event will also feature a variety of entertainment.

For the second year the Taste of Putnam County event will include the Putnam County Family Support Service's "Chairish the Child" silent chair auction as a part of the event.

Meanwhile, live music will include newcomer Brent Arnold, and returning entertainers Blues Side Up of Greencastle and singer Barbara Ellen of Crawfordsville.

Free kids' games are being sponsored by Big Bounce Fun House Rentals, Indiana National Guard, Northern Putnam County Girl Scouts, Old National Bank, PNC Bank, Teachers Credit Union and The Waters of Greencastle.

There will also be a beer garden and corn hole for the adults.

Each person's entry ticket will be entered for a chance to win a large flat-screen television donated by University Lending.

Corporate sponsors for support of the Chamber event include Dixie Chopper Business Center, Duke Energy, Big Bounce Fun House Rentals, First National Bank, Banner-Graphic, Greencastle Offset Printing and Graphics, Taylor Made Awards and Promotions, University Lending, North Salem State Bank, Starbucks and Putnam County Hospital.

"Without the generosity of these businesses, this event would not be possible," Johnson said.
