County Jail

Four people were recently booked into the Putnam County Jail.

* At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Amanda Kae Witt, 30, Indianapolis, was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

At 11:40 a.m., William Wayne Johansen, 48, Greencastle, was arrested for harassment and a probation violation.

At 6:35 p.m., Jason Skinner, 35, Avon, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

*At 5:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Ryan Bedford O'Neal was charged with neglect of a dependent, criminal recklessness, reckless driving and a probation violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Joanna L. Turpin, 24, Danville, was traveling on U.S. 231 North near County Road 1100 North as she started to pass another vehicle, but decided not to.

Turpin advised Reserve Officer Gerald Ensor that she attempted to pull back into her lane and overcorrected her 2001 Honda Fit, causing it to fishtail.

Turpin then lost control of the vehicle causing it to spin and go into the ditch on its left side. The vehicle excited the roadway into a ditch, striking a fence as well as a corn field before coming to rest.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Four recent traffic citations were issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 11:02 p.m. Saturday, Blake Doolin, 19, Greencastle, was ticketed for speeding on Veterans Memorial Highway by Officer Eric Vaughan. Doolin was cited for 60 mph in a 40-mph zone.

-- At 11:17 p.m. Aug. 22, Andrew McGranahan, 22, Greencastle, was stopped at Hillcrest Drive and Arlington Street by Officer Kyle Lee. Granahan was ticketed for an expired license plate.

-- At 2:05 a.m. Aug. 22, Spencer Joyce, 25, Kokomo, was stopped for speeding on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street. Joyce was cited by Officer Nick Eastham for 55 mph in 30-mph zone.

-- At 12:05 a.m. Aug. 22, William Dunbar was stopped for speeding on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street. Dunbar was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham for 51 mph in 30-mph zone.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed a lift assist and have responded to several dispatches recently.

* At 9:49 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, GFD was called to 904 S. College Ave. in response to a fire alarm that was due to steam.

* At 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 800 S. Locust St. though no fire or cause for the alarm was discovered.

* At 9:39 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, GFD was dispatched to the USDA office at 1007 Mill Pond Ln. for a fire alarm, no fire

was detected.

* At 1:13 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, GFD was called to a fire alarm due to cooking at 420 Anderson St.

* At 7:44 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at the Little Rock Apartments, located at 106 S. Spring St. The alarm had been triggered by cooking.

* At 9:19 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 27, GFD was called to a hazardous condition based on a strange odor at the residence located at 208 E. Olive St. Upon arrival GFD performed an air monitor, found nothing and advised residents to leave and call 911 if odor returned.

* Thursday, Aug. 28, GFD was dispatched to 304 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm due to cooking.

* At 5:51 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Berry Street and Maple Avenue. Upon arrival GFD provided medical assistance to Operation Life and secured the scene. One per was injured in the accident.
