Featured Athlete of the Week: Maddy Smith, Volleyball Cloverdale High School

Maddy Smith is an 18-year-old volleyball player at Cloverdale High School. She has two sisters, Sam Smith and Camille Garcia. She was born to Brad Smith and Alina Izaguirre. She is a member of National Honor society and was a member of Student Council her junior year.

Her favorite food is pizza, her favorite movie is "The Notebook" and her favorite artist is Nelly. Se enjoys math and her favorite teacher is Mr. Wilcox.


Banner Graphic: What was different about going into this offseason being a senior as opposed to others?

Maddy Smith: This year I get to play. I broke my arm last year and had surgery.I'm happy that I get to be with my friends.


BG: What are your individual goals and the team's goals?

MS: My individual goal is to get better at passing and strengthening my arm more. My team goals are to get conference and county.


BG: Who are your best friends on the team?

MS: Jessie, Lexi, Bailee, Christa, Kimmy, Lindsay. Can I name that many? The whole team?


BG: What kinds of life lessons can you learn from playing sports?

MS: They can help you with being a leader and learning how to better work other people. It helps because you need that to be confident.


BG: What is your fondest memory of playing sports at Cloverdale.

MS: Winning softball's county two years in a row, because we haven't in a while.


BG: What are some of your goals after high school?

MS: I don't know what college I want to go to yet. I've been on one college visit. I want to be a neonatal nurse.


BG: Why does that career field interest you?

MS: Because I like babies a lot and I think I would do really well in nursing.
