Real Men Read program needs local men to read to kids

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

The United Way of Putnam County is hoping to implement the Real Men Read program into the four Putnam County schools.

The program would take one male volunteer into each of the 19 kindergarten classrooms, one day a month for five months of the school year. The volunteer would read a book and then each child would receive a copy of that book as well.

This would typically take only 30 minutes of their time each month.

The program aids in the "Success by Six" belief in helping our children achieve the ability to read by age six is important to their development.

United Way is looking for interested male volunteers in the community for the five-month commitment.

Anyone interested or who knows someone who would be interested is asked to contact Jennifer Edwards at the UWPC office (653-5638) with their school of choice.
