Airport Appreciation Days

Sunday, September 7, 2014

After a rainy start Saturday to the annual Airport Appreciation Days effort at Putnam County Regional Airport, blues skies provided a beautiful backdrop Sunday as visitors took plane rides, visited vendors or toured facilities. Doug Miller of the airport staff helps refuel one visiting restored aircraft.

Pilot Vern Bothwell Jr. (bottom, right) of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EEA Chapter 1374) provides some aviation insights.
Meanwhile, a helicopter ride above the facility on Greencastle's East Side provides a spectacular view of the airport and festivities.
While a Young Eagle flight returns to earth and follows ground control instructions, a biplane can be seen (right) about to take off on the new runway at the Putnam County Regional Airport Sunday afternoon. Annual Airport Appreciation Days featured visitors and Young Eagles (ages 8-17) taking flights in private planes, helicopters and even biplanes under beautiful blue skies after a cloudy, rainy day accompanied runway dedication ceremonies on Saturday.
