Trading nonperishable food for flowers, the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry received hundreds of items through Greencastle's annual Friendship Day tradition on Wednesday. Among those present for the donation were the sponsors of the event, Michelle Collins of Asbury Towers, Lora Zoll of Ivy Tech Community College, Kim Cooper of the Putnam Inn, Sue Frazier of Bittles and Hurt, Tammy Johnson of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Jenny Sullivan of Eitel's Florist, food pantry director Judy Miller and Patricia Hoopengarner. Sponsors not present were First National Bank, Duke Energy, Mill Pond Health Campus and The Game Warehouse.

    As of the end of August we had sent out just under 61,000 meals for approximately 27000 households.

    We do need more donations such as this to keep food on the shelves as well as monetary donations.
