CLOVERDALE -- Things aren't back to normal just yet, but two Cloverdale teens injured in a Saturday, Sept. 6 car crash are on the road to recovery.

Sandy Greene and Athena Blankenship, both Cloverdale 17-year-olds, were injured on Saturday, Sept. 6 when the Ford Taurus Greene was driving ran off of Lincoln Avenue in Cloverdale, hitting a fiber optic box, utility pole and a tree.

Marty Greene, Sandy's father, told the Banner Graphic both girls are doing much better nearly two weeks later.

"We thank everybody for their prayers and concerns for us," Marty Green said.

Sandy, who was airlifted to Riley Hospital after suffering a broken femur and tibia, is currently using a walker and will be undergoing further rehabilitation later this month.

Blankenship was treated at Putnam County Hospital for a broken arm and elbow. Marty Greene reported she is up, doing well and moving about.

The wreck did extensive damage to the car, and Sandy Greene had to be extricated by members of the Cloverdale Township Fire Department.

Cloverdale Police Sgt. Charlie Hallam reported at the time that both girls were wearing their seatbelts and that airbags were operational.

The girls' friends and families are happy to still have two healthy teens following such a frightening wreck.

"Both are healthy and living," Marty Greene said. "It's just an unfortunate incident."
