County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:48 p.m. on Friday, Brandon Lee Runnells, 24, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of marijuana and bond revocation.

At 4:05 p.m. on Friday, James Franklin Day Jr., 24, Greenwood, was charged with violation of home detention, operating while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

* At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Anjali Makayla Cohen, 24, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery and a probation violation.

* At 3:11 p.m. on Sunday, John Ingomar Maynard, 52, Reelsville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and a probation violation.

* At 10:20 a.m. on Monday, James Ray Mullis II., 28, Coatesville, was arrested for criminal trespassing and possession of marijuana.

City Police

Authorities are on the lookout for a maroon 2001 Chevrolet Camaro, reportedly stolen recently from S & B Auto at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway in Greencastle.

The car was taken sometime Sept. 18, Greencastle City Police Officer Ed Wilson reported.

Police are looking for a male suspect in his early 20s who was seen around the sports car earlier. He is described as being 5-8 to 5-10 in height with dark hair and a tear-drop tattoo under one eye.

One recent arrest was reported by city officers.

* At 12:59 a.m. Sept. 20, Rufus Gaston, 27, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Chris Jones on a warrant for failure to appear.

Gaston, who was reportedly taken into custody at Moore's Bar, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Four vehicles were reportedly damaged in a 6:27 a.m. property-damage accident Tuesday on Shadowlawn Avenue near Meadow Drive.

Joshua Oliver, 18, Roachdale, was eastbound on Shadowlawn, driving a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and his vehicle left the roadway, striking three parked vehicles, and streetside trash cans, Officer Albert Epple reported.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

In addition to Oliver's vehicle also damaged in the mishap were:

-- A 2014 Ford Escape, listed as owned by Gelco Corp.

-- A 2008 Chevrolet Impala, owned by Charles Kerr, Greencastle.

-- A 1973 Ford LTD, owned by Charles Kerry, Greencastle.

Sheriff's Dept.

Five recent traffic accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, Frankie L. Cummings, 83, Coatesville, was turning west onto County Road 100 North from County Road 750 East.

Cummings advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that she made a wide turn and struck the rear driver side area of Maria A. Garcia, 39, Fillmore, who was eastbound on County Road 100 North at County Road 750 East.

Garcia veered to the right, however could not avoid a collision. Garcia went off the south side of the roadway, causing her 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe to roll several times.

Pettit noted that Garcia complained of head pain while passengers, Fabi Garcia, 16, Fillmore, complained of neck pain; Faviola Garcia, 35, Fillmore, complained of head pain; Julie Garcia, 15, Fillmore, complained of pain to her face; Anita Garcia 60, Fillmore, complained of neck pain.

Assisting at the scene were Operation Life and PMH Ambulance.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 8:40 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, Jay D. Mendenhall, 63, Coatesville, was westbound on U.S. 36, approaching Groveland.

Mendenhall told Cpl. Josh Boller he had slowed his 2005 GM Yukon to make a left turn into the gas station when James W. Campbell, 20, New Castle, rear-ended him in a 2004 Dodge Ram.

Extensive damage was done to the McFarland's vehicle and trailer.

Meanwhile, Campbell advised he was westbound on U.S. 36 approaching Groveland and did not notice that Mendenhall had slowed to make a turn and rear-ended him.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Thomas R. Riggins, 28, Anderson, was westbound on State Road 240, attempting to cross State Road 75.

Riggins advised Pettit that he was looking to the north at the roadway sign and failed to see Christopher R. Shannon, 23, Danville, who was traveling southbound on State Road 75 in a 1882 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Shannon noted that he was southbound on State Road 75 when Riggins crossed the intersection traveling westbound. Shannon braked and veered to the right. However, he was not able to avoid hitting Riggins' trailer.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:52 p.m. on Thursday, Emma J. McFarland, 78, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 at County Road 500 North in a 2008 Buick Lucerne.

Sgt. Craig Sibbitt noted that according to witness statements, McFarland was attempting to make a left turn onto westbound County Road 500 North. Meanwhile, Ronnie L. Winsted Jr., 46, Rockville, was also northbound on U.S. 231 at County Road 500 North. A third vehicle, which was not involved in the crash, but was a witness behind McFarland and in front of Winsted.

McFarland was said to be turning west onto County Road 500 North when Winsted attempted to pass both vehicles in his 1996 Pontiac Bonneville. The witness vehicle was turning east onto County Road 500 North and noted that McFarland made the proper signal before attempting to turn.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:43 p.m. on Sunday, Pearl Sadler, 52, Indianapolis, was northbound on U.S. 231, approaching County Road 800 South.

Sadler advised Cpl. Josh Boller that Daniella E. Schatzberg, 18, Festus, Mo., had slowed her 2002 Toyota Camry nearly to a stop on the shoulder portion of the roadway. Schatzberg then attempted to make a left U-turn in the road right in front of Sadler, who swerved to avoid a collision. However, Schatzberg clipped the right rear bumper of Sadler's 2000 Ford.

Schatzberg said she was northbound on U.S. 231 when she slowed and positioned her vehicle on the shoulder of the road. At that time she turned left to make a U-turn to go back southbound. However, she did not see Sadler, and therefore struck her car with the left front of her vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to four lift assists and a number of dispatches recently.

* At 7:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, GFD was called to a fire alarm due to cooking at 106 Spring St.

* At 7:12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, GFD was called to 410 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that was triggered from cooking.

* At 3:23 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, GFD was called to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm that was due to cooking.

* At 12:08 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 410 S. Indiana St.

* At 12:27 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The alarm was triggered by a faulty pull station, no fire was present.
