The Tiger Cub boys' soccer team posted victory in phenomenal fashion when Owen Valley visited Dee S. Monnett field Thursday.

Greencastle never faltered and never let up as it put a pounding on the visitors 9-0.

The game offered several feats from the Tiger Cubs, including a hat trick by Justin Hartman, a long athletic shot by Jacob Kessler and a few junior varsity scores.

"It was wonderful," GHS coach Cody Watson said. "We had lots of guys getting on the score sheet, whether it was goals or assists. It was a really great team effort to get the score where it was at nine to nothing."

A slightly slow start for the home team yielded a flurry a goals for the finish.

Hartman got the ball rolling for the Purple Pride when he found the net 13 minutes into the game after Kevin Polster found him for the assist. About 90 seconds later Seth Nichols put the ball in, with the feed from Evan Crowe, giving the Tiger Cubs a 2-0 lead midway through the first period.

Then with five minutes to go Colin Dombrowski hit Kessler who drilled a shot that the Patriot goalie had no chance to get.

"Spacing and positioning is a big one for us," Brayden Watson said. "It's so we can make sure we are in our right positions and not falling on top of each other. Another thing that we look at is making sure our heads are on a swivel where we look over our shoulders to make sure no one is on us and we can call for the ball."

The head were on a swivel to start the second half and the Tiger Cubs scored six times in the half.

Two consecutive goals by Hartman to start the half completed the hat trick for the junior and gave Greencastle a 5-0 lead.

Polster again made the connection possible.

"It was nice getting my first hat trick after three years of playing," Hartman said. "We did a lot better on our possessions than we have been in past games. I thought we controlled the ball well. The second half especially."

Owen Valley never really threatened and Greencastle made sure that the pressure stayed on.

Zack Wilkerson who kept the tempo up all game found the net after a Kessler feed with 20 minutes to go.

Ten minutes later Wilkerson made the pass to Watson for his first score of the season as the Tiger Cubs kept the foot on the gas.

"I was expecting it," Watson said. "I just felt like I was going to get a goal tonight. My teammate just plotted it right to me and plotted it right into the net with my left foot. I really enjoyed it. "

After goalkeeper Alex Briones kept the sheet clean in their first half, Brody Watson finished off the game and the few times that Owen Valley did threaten to put up a score the goalies came through.

With the entire team seeing some action Adrain Peters found an open Mattia Seaman to make the score 8-0 and then a pass from Eli Secrest allowed Jack Romer to top off the flawless win for the Tiger Cubs.

Greencastle took 23 shots on goal and probably could have gotten lucky with a few more scores but the team was very happy with the big victory late in the season.

"We are working really hard this season," Brayden Watson said. "We are really excited and hopefully we can get some more wins before the end of the season."
