DePauw Choirs to present 'The Soul's Voyage' this Sunday

Friday, September 26, 2014

DePauw University Chorus and Chamber Singers, in collaboration with the DePauw Wind Ensemble, invite listeners to travel with them on a soulful voyage across seas and centuries on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The 3 p.m. performance in Kresge Auditorium, directed by visiting professor Dr. Kristina Boerger, features special guest appearances by faculty percussionist Bonnie Whiting and student soloists Alec Barker (violin) and Federico Papi (cello). They will take the audience on a journey through 15th-century Italian Carnival song, English madrigals, South African polyphony, to contemporary music from Finland and 20th-century concert settings of poetry by Walt Whitman.

After a quick set change in the second half, the combined choirs will take the stage with the DePauw Wind Ensemble to conclude the concert with American composer Howard Hanson's "Song of Democracy."

General admission tickets for DePauw Choir concerts are $3; tickets for children and seniors over 65 and all students are free.

To purchase tickets, visit www.depauw.edu/music/events, stop by the box office, located on the ground floor of the Green Center at 605 S. College Ave., or call 658-4827.
