Doors to DePauw University's Kresge Auditorium will open at 6 p.m. Saturday for the free Ubben Lecture by New York Times columnist David Brooks.

Seating in the venue, located within Green Center for the Performing Arts (605 S. College Ave.), is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brooks is also a bestselling author and serves as a commentator on PBS' "Newshour."

His books include "Bobos In Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There," "The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character and Achievement" and "On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) in the Future Tense."

Saturday evening's event will be the first Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture of the 2014-15 academic year. Piper Kerman, justice reform advocate and author of "Orange Is the New Black," will visit DePauw on Feb. 4. Another Ubben Lecture will be announced soon.

Established in 1986 through the generous support of 1958 DePauw graduates Timothy H. and Sharon Williams Ubben, the Ubben Lecture Series was designed to "bring the world to Greencastle."

Previous Ubben Lecturers at DePauw -- numbering almost 100 guests -- have included Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Tony Blair, Peyton Manning, Mike Krzyzewski, Gen. Colin Powell, Jane Goodall, Ron Paul, Spike Lee, John Major, Shimon Peres and Michio Kaku.
