Jacob Duncan Trio to perform at Jazz at the Duck Thursday

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

The Jacob Duncan Trio will play Jazz at The Duck from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Inn at DePauw's Fluttering Duck.

Duncan is a saxophonist and composer based in the Louisville area. His work has taken him all over the world in formats from a jazz trio to his avant garde large ensemble Liberation Prophecy. These projects have produced multiple CD recordings and also a video series titled "Liberation Living Room."

Joining Duncan on drums will be Eli Wiedman, who is a native of Morgantown, W.Va. After attending West Virginia University as a philosophy major, he received a full scholarship to study jazz at the University of Louisville. In the summer of 2014, Eli was fortunate enough to be one of 15 young musicians chosen to attend the Steans Music Institute in Chicago, one of the most prestigious summer conservatories in the world. He has been lucky enough to perform with some extremely talented musicians including Rufus Reid, Eric Alexander, Steve Davis, Jacob Duncan, Pat Harbison, Imer Santiago, Craig Wagner, Chris Fitzgerald, James Moore, Curtis Johnson, Brandon Coleman, Drew Miller and many others. Eli currently performs throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia.

In addition to performing at The Duck, the two musicians will be providing clinics and performing in an open rehearsal before the Thursday night show. The open rehearsal will take place at 3:45 p.m. in Green Center room 1115. The saxophone clinic will take place in Green Center 1118 and the drum set clinic in 1109, both at 5:45 p.m.

All events are free.
