South Putnam, Greencastle advance to cross country regional

Twelve cross country teams visited South Putnam Saturday for the IHSAA sectional. It was the third time in a row that county schools had raced on the hilly terrain at South Putnam and each team was well versed in how they wanted to attack the morning's event.

With Brownsburg placing first in the boys' race, Greencastle was the lowest scoring county team. They placed third with a score of 121. South Putnam got into the top five with 137. Cloverdale placed ninth with 282 and North Putnam ran with an incomplete team score.

Brownsburg's Hariharan Sathyamurth with a time of 16:50:05 was the leader.

Kieffer Vittetow of South Putnam was the first Putnam County runner across the finish line. His time of 17:29.49 placed ninth. Greencastle's Taylor Secrest placed 12th with 17:35.89.

Avon took the top spot in the girls' race and Greencastle finished fourth with 102. The Eagle's came in just behind the Cubs with 112. North Putnam had 234 and placed eighth. The Clovers placed 10 with an incomplete team score.

With a time of 21:38.48 Corrie Romer of Greencastle finished 12th helping the Tiger Cubs into the next round. Madison Egold placed 14th and had a time of 21:45.01. Greencastle's Brittany Love and Arianna Pershing finished 18th and 20th respectively while Ariel Higgins took 24th.

For the Lady Clovers two individuals Victoria Szalay and Clare Plamondon will be advancing along with the top five teams to the Ben Davis Regionals Saturday.
