CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board met for its monthly meeting on Monday evening, which lasted a mere 15 minutes. During the meeting the board not only welcomed its new superintendent Greg Linton, but approved a number of personnel items as well.

Just over 10 days into his new position, Linton, who came to Cloverdale following nearly five years as the Spencer-Owen Community Schools (SOCS) Superintendent, has hit the ground running, meeting with several school administrators and department heads.

"I appreciate the very warm welcome that I've had," Linton said. "Time has gone very quickly, but in a short period of time I've been able to meet with the building administrators, assistant principals, department heads as well as a few parents of some kids."

In the coming weeks, Linton will continue to meet with department heads and administrators in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the

corporation's overall goals.

"The intent during the first couple of weeks has been to meet as many department heads, administrators and teachers as possible to get a better understanding of the direction that we want to take the school corporation," Linton told the Banner Graphic. "Obviously, I have found administrators and teachers who are very proud of the accomplishments that they've made during the past school year with the corporation receiving an 'A' and then each one of the buildings also receiving an 'A.' They've clearly been working hard and I want to make sure I bring the support as a superintendent to continue to make those kind of gains in the future."

Earlier in the meeting, the board unanimously approved the hiring of elementary school special education teacher Lisa Rambo, eighth-grade social studies teacher Robert "Sam" Jones, fifth-grade health teacher Dennis Weir, instructional assistants Amanda Storrs and Julie Wagoner, breakfast head cook Sharon Fellows. The board also approved the hiring of volunteer livestock coach Jenna Smith along with volunteer color guard coaches Andre Williams, Rebecca Raisor and Makayla Fry as well as the resignations of instructional assistant Cindy Peterson and high school teacher Amanda Gibboney.

The reassignment of Alice Hicks to lunch head cook was also approved along with the hiring of eighth-grade boys' basketball coach Brandon Moon, seventh-grade boys' basketball coach Billy Boyette, eight-grade girls' basketball coach Travis Dorsett, seventh-grade girls' basketball coach Heather Lee, middle school boys' basketball volunteer assistant coach Jacob Clark and wrestling volunteer assistant coaches Tyler Payne, Kurt Kyle, Kyle Ellis and Tim Wilkes.

As it is done yearly, the board approved the adoption of its 2015 budgets, tax rates and levies, capital projects plan, school bus replacement plan and resolutions. No discussion was had and it was unanimously approved.

The board also honored elementary school student Mcguire Lee, middle school student Markus Priest and high school student Sarah Neeley as its October students of the month.
