Retiring Miller School

Tuesday, October 14, 2014
In order to make way for the development of a senior rental community in the oldest part of the building, the addition at Miller School on Anderson Street must be razed. Miletone Ventures of Indianapolis is undertaking the redevelopment process, with the first crews on scene Tuesday, tearing down and hauling away sections of the building as they prepare to renovate the oldest, northern section of the school, as well as adding a new two-story wing to the southeast side of the building. Plans for the Miller Asbury apartment project include 12 one-bedroom units and 18 two-bedroom units for persons age 55 and up or 62 and up. A 12-month construction period is foreseen with completion due in October 2015. Workers made noticeable progress on the teardown portion of the project on Tuesday, but demolition of one of the building's most distint features -- the large brick smokestack -- is still to come.
