Sheriff's Dept.

* At 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 11, June S. Kays, 89, Bainbridge, was traveling on State Road 236 near U.S. 231.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons noted that upon his arrival he was advised by multiple witnesses that Kays made a looping right turn from State Road 236 onto U.S. 231. It was also noted that Kays' 2012 GMC Terrain crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and made impact into the side, rear of a trailer being pulled by Dennis R. Russell, 66, North Judson.

The force created by the accident caused the straps securing a Chevrolet Blazer, which was being towed on the trailer, to snap on impact, sending the Blazer over the front of the trailer and into the rear of Russell's 2012 Ford F-150.

Neither the Blazer or the Ford F-150 suffered disabling damage. However, the trailer did suffer extensive/disabling damage to the left side and the undercarriage and thus was towed from the scene.

Kays' vehicle suffered extensive/disabling damage to the left front and was also towed from the scene.

After speaking to Kays as well as multiple witnesses, she was cited for operating her vehicle left of center.

At the time of the incident, neither party complained of injury. However, Gibbons was later advised that Mike Kays, Kays' son, had taken her to Putnam County Hospital for precautionary medical attention.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, Walter Helmick, 62, Indianapolis, was traveling west on County Road 125 South just east of County Road 300 West.

Helmick advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that after crossing Irwin Bridge he swerved his 1997 Chevrolet Conventional Cab to avoid an animal and lost control. Helmick then traveled off the south side of the road and struck a tree.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 3 p.m., Theodore Bubb, 26, Rosedale, was westbound on West Walnut in the area of County Road 400 West.

Bubb advised Pettit that he lost control of his 2013 Yamaha R1 motorcycle in a curve, causing it to go down on the pavement.

Bubb was ejected and went into a ravine on the southwest side of the intersection, while the motorcycle struck a power pole, continued into the ravine and caught fire.

The motorcycle was a total loss.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 11:28 a.m. Derrick Ward, 35, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching U.S. 36. Meanwhile, Vincent Stanley, 56, Centerpoint, was traveling west on U.S. 36 approaching U.S. 231.

Ward advised Deputy Steve Smith that he believed his light was green and when he pulled into the intersection, he was struck by Stanley's 2005 Jeep Liberty as he was turning south on U.S. 231.

Ward also noted that a second vehicle behind Stanley almost struck him, but continued on U.S. 36.

Stanley stated that he was attempting to turn south on U.S. 231 when he struck Ward's 2014 GM 2KD. He could not advise whether the light was green or not for east and westbound traffic.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.
