PUTNAMVILLE -- A 23-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Friday afternoon on drug charges after his car was stopped on Interstate 70 in Putnam County.

Indiana State Police Trooper Yan Dravigne of the Putnamville Post was patrolling I-70 near the 32-mile marker, nine miles west of Cloverdale, when he noticed a green Nissan Altima following another vehicle too closely.

The westbound vehicle was stopped about 2:10 p.m. During subsequent conversation with the driver, Trooper Dravigne noticed inconsistencies in the driver's story and indicators of possible criminal activity.

A search of the vehicle yielded 40 narcotic pills in the driver's console area, preliminarily identified as amphetamines and muscle relaxers, along with various items of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect driver was identified as James Leverone of Chelmsford, Mass.

Leverone was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on preliminary charges of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
