County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail this recently.

* At 12:10 a.m. on Friday, Leslie Marie Cope, 24, Roachdale, was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, possession of paraphernalia and operating while intoxicated.

At 12:40 p.m., Ryan Neil Carel, 23, was arrested for failure to appear.

At 2:10 p.m., Charles Christopher Frye, 26, Brazil, was charged with failure to appear.

At 11:49 p.m., Dwight Sargent, 39, Indianapolis, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

At 11:59 p.m., Michael Croom, 35, Indianapolis, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

* At 4:08 a.m. on Saturday, Andrew Bethel, 20, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

At 9:54 p.m., Sherman Tawon Sherwood, 26, Gary, was arrested for intimidation and battery.

* At 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Joshua Lee Doane, 31, Poland, was charged with a probation violation.

* At 6:29 p.m. on Monday, Anthony Michael Paul, 23, Greencastle, was arrested for failure to appear.

City Police

Two separate apparent shoplifting incidents at the Dollar General store at 1520 Indianapolis Rd. were investigated recently by Greencastle City Police.

-- At 6:40 p.m. Friday, Barbara Annette Jezior, 47, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham for theft at the East Side store.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, she reportedly took mascara and eyeliner, valued at a total $5.25, stuck the items down her pants and left the store.

-- At 6:57 p.m. Monday, a juvenile suspect reportedly stole two USB phone chargers at Dollar General.

The 14-year-old male was arrested by Officer Eric Vaughan.

No dollar value was listed on the stolen items.

One recent traffic accident was investigated by city officers.

The mishap occurred at 7:58 p.m. Sunday at State Road 240 and Calbert Way as Sheryl Hansell, 59, Fillmore, reportedly exited the easternmost Walmart driveway in a 2011 Dodge Nitro, attempting to turn left onto Indianapolis Road.

However, she reportedly pulled into the path of a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Brianna M. West, 49, Greencastle, Officer Matt Huffman noted.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

West was ticketed for operating without financial responsibility (no insurance) and for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to multiple dispatches recently.

* At 11:41 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, GFD was called to 703 Terrace Lane for a carbon monoxide alarm. Upon arrival, nothing was found by GFD.

* At 2:14 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, GFD performed an odor investigation at the bowling alley at 1250 S. Jackston St., although nothing was found.

* At 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, GFD was called to 1750 Indianapolis Rd. for a motor vehicle accident with minor injuries. Upon arrival, GFD assisted Operation Life and performed debris cleanup.

* At 11:58 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27. GFD was dispatched to 8 E. Walnut St. for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. GFD assisted Operation Life and performed debris cleanup at the scene of the accident.

* At 7:49 p.m., Monday, Oct. 27, GFD was called to a fire at 1907 W. Rangeline Rd. but upon arrival, learned that the property owner was engaging in a legal burn within property lines and was allowed to continue burning.
