County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:54 p.m. on Friday, Chanord Sago, 37, Indianapolis, was charged with a probation violation.

At 9:03 p.m., Taylor Jeanne Burk, 19, Reelsville, was arrested on a probation violation.

* At 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Daniel Eugene McLaughlin, 51, Reelsville, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, John Ryan Sanders, 31, Greencastle, was arrested on a probation violation.

At 4:05 a.m., Jacob Thomas Hebbe, 21, Greencastle, was charged with resisting law enforcement, battery on law enforcement, public intoxication and possession of paraphernalia.

At 12:10 p.m., Thomas Wyane Evans, 64, Greencastle, was charged with a probation violation and operating while intoxicated with a prior.

City Police

Two recent shoplifting incidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 6:20 p.m. Sunday, Officer Darrel Bunten was called to the Dollar General store on Indianapolis Road to investigate a reported shoplifting incident involving two females.

Sylvia Tiedemann, 18, Cloverdale, was charged with two counts of theft, while a juvenile female was also implicated for reportedly stealing a $1.07 bottle of nail polish remover.

Tiedemann allegedly took four bottles of nail polish, hair bands and bobby pins with a total value of $10.70.

However, as she showed Office Bunten the contents of her purse, she reportedly admitted to taking tubes of lip gloss, valued at $16, from the Walmart store before going to Dollar General.

-- At 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Capt. Chris Jones was called to Walmart to investigate a reported shoplifting case.

Dillon Pate, 23, Greencastle, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on theft charges after reportedly taking items valued at $56.06 from Walmart.

Pate allegedly took a pair of Dickie's cargo pants, a six-pack of Hanes T-shirts and a five-pack of Hanes tank T-shirts.

Capt. Jones said Pate stuffed the stolen items into a Walmart bag that contained a bottle of vodka he purchased earlier.

In another recent incident, Officer Ed Wilson cited Jessica Keck, 31, Coatesville, for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Wilson reportedly came upon Keck's car sitting in the Oak Leaf Drive roadway at 2:50 p.m. Saturday.

-- At 10:16 a.m. Saturday, Officer Bunten issued Vernie Buis, 60, Greencastle, three citations when he was stopped on Bloomington Street.

Buis was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense, having a false or fictitious registration and operating without financial responsibility.

Two recent property-damage accidents were reported by city officers.

-- At 10:50 a.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Warren Drive near Avenue B.

Nicholas Cooper, 37, Greencastle, was southbound on Warren Drive, Officer Bunten reported, when a 2012 GMC Sierra, driven by John Lucas, 48, Brazil, pulled into his path from the First Financial Bank exit and a collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 8 a.m. Friday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Rangeline Road as Damon Glaze, 22, Greencastle, was westbound, driving a 2003 GMC Sierra, when he reportedly encountered an eastbound 2004 Dodge Ram, driven by Maurice Unversaw, 77, Fillmore, approaching partially in his lane.

Glaze reportedly swerved but his truck was still sideswiped by the Unversaw vehicle, which struck the mirror and driver's side of the Glaze vehicle, Officer Bunten said.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Dept.

*At 3:11 p.m. on Thursday, William D. Bell, Poland, was traveling westbound on County Road 250 North just east of County Road 550 West.

Bell advised Deputy Steve Smith that he was traveling west on County Road 250 North entering a 90-degree turn when he saw Glen Oehlerking, 58, Rockville, entering the 90-degree turn from the west.

Bell added that Oehlerking was in his lane so he tried to avoid an accident by moving his 1992 Chevrolet Blazer into Oehlerking's lane. However, Oehlerking then moved back into his lane and they collided head on.

Smith noted that Bell had a passenger with him, who stated that they were coming around the corner and Oehlerking was in their lane, which caused Bell to swerve to the left to miss him, but Oehlerking then swerved his 1993 Dodge Ram right, causing them to hit head on.

Oehlerking advised Smith that he was traveling east on County Road 250 North just east of County Road 550 West and getting ready to enter a 90-degree turn when he heard a vehicle coming from the east. Oehlerking added that he was driving slow and he had seen Bell coming around the corner in his lane before colliding.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 4:54 p.m. on Friday, Joseph A. Tucker, 54, Centerpoint, was westbound on County Road 1000 South just west of State Road 243 when he noticed Dustin K. Brauer, 35, Reelsville, crest a small hill left of center.

Tucker advised Reserve officer Rick Lambert that he then took evasive measures to avoid a collision, leaving the road and crossing into a private driveway coming to rest on the right side of the road with his 2001 Pontiac Grand Am trapped on an embankment.

Witnesses traveling behind Tucker advised Lambert that they observed Tucker suddenly veer to the right off the roadway -- noticing Brauer appearing to be left of center also taking evasive measures to avoid a collision.

Brauer had no damage to his 2010 Honda Civic, while Tucker's vehicle had disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Thomas W. Beck, 59, Estes Park, Colo., was traveling westbound on State Road 36 East near County Road 725 East when a deer ran into the roadway.

Beck advised Reserve Officer David Allison that he was unable to avoid striking the animal with his 2013 Dodge Charger.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 5:47 p.m. on Saturday, Tamara Allen, 40, Greencastle, was traveling northbound on Dunbar Road just north of County Road 175 West.

Allen advised Lt. Virgil Lanning that another vehicle was southbound approaching the bridge, which caused her to swerve her 2003 Ford Escape to the right to avoid a collision and strike the bridge.

Allen was cited for operating while intoxicated with a prior and operating while intoxicated with injury.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:42 a.m. on Sunday, Kimberly M. Grigsby Rose, 38, Brazil, was traveling northbound on County Road 325 West just south of County Road 450 when a deer ran into the roadway.

Rose advised Detective Matt Biggs that she was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with the front passenger side of her 2003 Chevrolet Venture.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed one lift assist and responded to several dispatches recently.

* At 11:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, GFD was called to an odor investigation at 126 E. Washington St., although no cause was found.

* At 11:52 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at 209 N. Jackson St. Upon arrival, GFD performed debris clean-up at the site of the incident.

* At 12:52 p.m. and 5:37 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 107 N. Hanna St. that had been triggered for reasons unknown. Upon visiting the location a second time that evening, a malfunction was given as the cause of the alarm.

* At 4:43 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, GFD was called to 509 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm set off due to smoking.

* At 11:53 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, GFD responded to a gas leak at 126 Martinsville St. but upon investigation nothing was found.

* At 3:21 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, GFD was called to 110 E. Larabee St. for a fire alarm triggered by a pull-station being pulled.

* At 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, GFD responded to an alarm malfunction at 2000 Jackson St.
