County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Kevin Patrick Chambers, 51, Indianapolis, was arrested on a probation violation.

* At 11:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Robert Eugene Tobin III, 33, Ladoga, was charged with nonsupport of a dependent.

City Police

Two recent accidents were investigated by Greencatle City Police officers.

-- At 11:57 a.m. Tuesday, a three-vehicle accident at Jackson and Walnut streets sent four people to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident occurred, Officer Jeff Modlin reported, as Ian Pingleton, 35, Fillmore, attempted to cross South Jackson Street, eastbound on Walnut, and pulled his 2000 Toyota Celica into the path of a southbound 2006 GMC Yukon, driven by Jennifer Edwards, 35, Greencastle.

Impact spun the Edwards vehicle into a northbound 2011 Lincoln Navigator driven by Cody Shonkwiler, 28, South Bend.

Pingleton, Shonkwiler and a passenger in the Shonkwiler vehicle were all transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance.

Edwards was reportedly taken to the hospital by her husband, State Trooper Adam Edwards.

Total damage in the accident was listed in excess of $10,000.

-- At 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, the CVS parking lot at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive was the scene of a minor two-vehicle mishap.

Jerry Hogue, 70, Greencastle, was backing a 2005 GMC Sierra from a parking space, Sgt. Terry Eastham reported, when he struck a 2011 Nissan Altima, driven by Ida Smith, 57, Roachdale.

Smith had backed out of another parking space and was proceeding to the parking lot exit when the collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Dept.

One recent accident was investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 8:41 a.m. Tuesday, Charles S. Christian, 58, Indianapolis, was eastbound on State Road 42 near State Road 243 South.

Christian told Cpl. Josh Boller that he leaned down to place a cigarette in the ashtray of his 2003 Ford F150, which caused him to lose control and leave the roadway.

Christian's truck struck a guardrail and went into a spin, striking the guardrail several times before coming to a complete stop.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed one medical assist and responded to a number of dispatches recently.

* At 6:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, GFD was dispatched to 375 N. 450 East to provide mutual aid to the Floyd Township Fire Department for a wildfire in the woods that was extinguished before causing significant destruction.

* At 7:53 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, GFD was called to 208 E. Olive St. in response to a fire alarm triggered by cooking.

* At 11:59 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, GFD assisted Operation Life and performed debris and fluid clean-up at a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Walnut and Jackson streets.

* At 4:49 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, GFD extinguished a vehicle fire at 27 Putnam Plaza when a bread truck reportedly caught fire. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

* At 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, GFD performed fluid and debris clean-up at 2048 E. Ridgeland Rd. at the site of a motor vehicle accident.

* At 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, GFD was called to 509 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm due to smoking on the second floor.

* At 10:33 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, GFD was dispatched to 107 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm due to cooking.
