Cloverdale School Board holds brief meeting

CLOVERDALE -- With Monday's Cloverdale School Board's meeting lasting a little more than 20 minutes, the board briefly discussed several routine matters including approving the corporation meeting special education standards, personnel items as well as honoring its students of the month.

During the meeting, Superintendent Greg Linton advised the board that during the past two weeks the corporation's special education department was recognized by the Indiana Department of Education for meeting standards.

"Basically, what that amounts to is the Department of Ed, every three years, will review the school corporation's special education cooporative," Linton explained. "They'll look at what you have going on, whether you're meeting your IUP timelines and those kinds of things and Cloverdale did meet standards. That's quite an accomplishment."

Linton stressed that the rubric used for such an evaluation is quite comprehensive and meeting those standards can be difficult.

"We are definitely really proud of Old National Trail and the leadership they provide and also teachers and administrators for what they do providing services for our kids," Linton added.

During the brief meeting, the board also approved the following personnel including the hiring of fifth-grade teacher Lori Halloran as Jessica Fidler's maternity leave replacement (which was also approved), elementary school special education teacher Darry Dickman as well as bus drivers Sherry Flory and Brad Prince.

The board also approved the resignation of elementary education teacher Krysta Cooper as well as the hiring of high school wrestling assistant coach Brian Siddons, boys' volunteer basketball assistant coaches Chad Crissman, Chase Haltom, Jerry Neese, Jim Sharp as well as middle school volunteer assistant basketball coach Dustin Cummings as well as high school volunteer assistant throwing coach Michael Nees and high school wrestling volunteer assistant coach Juan Hummell.

The board also honored its students of the month for November, elementary school student Jaidyn Helton, middle school student Bethany Stiers and high school student Kristina Crumpacker.

The board also accepted two $1,000 donations for both Cloverdale Elementary and Cloverdale Middle School from two retired teachers through the Putnam County Community Foundation.

The next Cloverdale School Board meeting will take place on Monday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
