DPU volleyball team's season ends in Wisconsin

Kenosha, Wis. - The DePauw volleyball team got off to a fast start in its NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Second Round Match, but 14th-ranked Carthage advance to the regional final with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20) win over the Tigers on Friday.

DePauw closed its season at 27-11, while the Lady Reds improved to 36-3 and face top-ranked Calvin tomorrow night.

The Tigers jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the opening set, but the hosts scored five straight and 12 of the next 13 to take a 20-15 lead. DePauw trimmed that lead to one on four occasions before Carthage took the 25-23 win.

Carthage scored the first four points of the second set and never trailed on the way to a 25-19 victory. The third set saw ties at every point until 13-13. From there, the Lady Reds scored seven consecutive. The lead reached as many as nine points at 23-14, but DePauw scored five straight. Bria Hailey's kill ended the set and match, 25-20.

Elisabeth Wilson paced the Tigers with 12 kills and a .500 attack percentage, while Sarah Burtenshaw followed with nine kills. The Tigers hit .159 as a team.

Faith Rolwes assisted on 27 of the Tigers' 38 kills, while Wilson led the way with two service aces.

Keely McGrath led the way with 25 digs, while Wilson had four blocks.

Emily Heuerman paced Carthage with 12 kills, while Rachel Fields totaled 11. The Lady Reds hit .211 for the match and Karen Chin assisted on 38 of Carthage's 49 kills.

Hanna Cahoon had a team-best 17 digs, while Luci Krenzke had 16. Chin and Hailey each had three blocks in the win.
