Only minor injuries were reported in a motor vehicle accident Sunday night resulting in a gas leak and a brief shut down of U.S. 231 traffic in both directions.

Traffic was resumed by 7 p.m. Sunday.

The vehicle managed to break a gas main as it slid off the roadway due to slippery conditions.

Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department (CTVFD) firefighters shut off the gas main before Vectren arrived to repair the damage, according to CTVFD Fire Chief Kerry Shepherd.

Both directions of traffic on U.S. 231 were closed down until firefighters were able to stop the gas leak and ensure the safety of motorists.

This accident was one of a slew of vehicles sliding off roadways under the slippery conditions of the first snow of the year.
