SPENCER--The score was closer than the game on Monday when the Cloverdale girls' team made the short trek to Owen Valley.

The Clovers won by five but, due to their shooting early, had already built up a 17-point lead by the fourth quarter. Cloverdale took the victory over Owen Valley 51-46.

"It was great to see a couple more shots fall tonight," Cloverdale coach Matt Langdon said. "We shot really well from the three-point line. I thought we did much better rebounding tonight against a big team, (junior) Angela Pieper giving us a big lift with 12 boards."

While Pieper came up big on the glass, recording six offensive rebounds, junior Haley Hamm was the leading scorer offensively, recording 14 points with two from long distance and she also shot four-of-five from the free-throw line.

Freshman Abby Walker nailed three from three-point land and scored 11.

"We had a lot of girls step up and increase their contribution. It's ideal to have balance scoring throughout and we are getting closer to that each game," Langdon said. "The girls were excited about the win but our focus must quickly turn to South Putnam and county this weekend. They are a well-coached team and play very hard. Our girls need to be ready to match their aggressive play."

The game against South Putnam on Friday will mark the first rivalry game of the season for each team.
