Banner Graphic: What's it like being a senior swimmer?

Elizabeth Alford: It's a lot of fun. I don't get messed with anymore by the older swimmers who would always mess with my stuff. It's nice to have people look up to me more than years before.

BG: How did you start swimming?

EA: Both of my parents swam and a lot of my other relatives swam. I just like being in the water.

BG: What is your favorite thing about swimming?

EA: Competing. I like to see how much better I can get at it. I also like to race other people. There is a lot of adrenaline involved in swimming.

BG: Who is your biggest motivator?

EA: Abby Spencer. She is my equal in swimming when it comes to everything.

BG: How does swimming help you become a better person?

EA: It makes me more disciplined. It keeps me from being fidgety during the day and it keeps me calm.

BG: What are your biggest achievements?

EA: Getting county in the 200-free my sophomore year and making two individual finals last year during sectionals.

BG: What are your post-high school goals?

EA: I plan to attend Evansville University and major in psychology.

BG: How do you believe you have left a mark on North Putnam?

EA: I think I've set a standard for other swimmers. I think I've given them something to work toward. I feel like I motivate them to swim harder and faster when they're in the pool.
