2014 Home for the Holidays lawn decorating contest set

It's time to break out the lights, wreaths, garland and plastic Santas and get busy decorating your front yards, porches and driveways, citizens of Putnam County.

Not only will it brighten up your neighborhood and show your holiday spirit, but it may also earn you a Walmart gift card of up to $100 in value.

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and the Greencastle Super Walmart are again sponsoring the 2014 Putnam County "Home for the Holidays" Lawn Decorating Contest.

Putnam County residents can enter by filling out and returning an entry form to the Chamber of Commerce office, at 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, or by faxing it to 765-848-1015 by 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8.

Entries should incliude name of decorating contestants, address, telephone number and detailed directions to the decorated home.

The first-place winner will receive a $100 Walmart gift card. Second place will get a $50 gift card and third place a $25 gift card from the Greencastle Walmart store.

Once entered, residents must have their home decorated by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Judging will take place on the evenings of Dec. 9-11. Lights need to be turned on each of those evenings between 5 and 10 p.m.

Contestants will be judged on originality, continuity of theme, preparation and effort and the "Spirit of Christmas."

Winners will be announced in the Banner-Graphic and on WREB radio (94.3 FM).

The contest is open to all homes in Putnam County.
