A Change of Seasons

What a difference four short weeks can make when you're dealing with good ol' Mother Nature. At the end of October, brilliant reds and vivid yellows dominated the leaves of this tree along the west side of U.S. 231 at Edgelea Drive. But after enduring the combination of a wicked Halloween, early arrival of single-digit temperatures, a record November day of rainfall and more, the stately tree, now barren of any leaves, is more like 50 shades of gray than exhibiting any autumnal splendor as Dec. 1 arrives. And lest we forget, winter doesn't set in until Dec. 21. (Photo by ERIC BERNSEE)
