Greencastle swim team takes on Terre Haute South

The Greencastle swim team swam well Thursday but came up short in point totals against Terre Haute South. The boys' result was 103-83, while the Lady Tiger Sharks fell 125-58. Greencastle won seven events on the night, including the men's 200-yard IM, the women's 200-yard medley relay and a come-from-behind victory in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay.

"We were swimming lifetime best for boys and girls all night long," GHS coach Kent Menzel. "We saw some absolute breakthrough performances. I think that this was a strong week for both Cecilia Pohlar and Nathan Gobert."

Pohlar was on the first-placed women's 200-yard Medley with Mallary Meyer, Amelia Smith and Grace Gillen. Gobert was the third leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team which included Conner Stimpert, Logan Wood and Elijah Brattain.

After falling behind, Gobert was able to swim his relay team into the lead as he really turned the propellers on in the last event of the night. Greencastle was able to finish off the men's 400 relay with a 15 second win.

"I saw some amazing things from (Gobert and Pohlar) tonight," Menzel said. "They've been working hard at practice and it turns out that it all showed in the meet."

Menzel was also pleased that all of the Tiger Sharks came out ready to swim and compete.

"I was very impressed by our relays," Menzel said. "Both boys' and girls' had very strong performances. For us to win relays against this team is a very good sign of what's to come for the Tiger Sharks."

Greencastle will next travel to Bloomington North on Tuesday.
