Giving Tree effort in need of more participation

Sunday, December 7, 2014

With the cutoff date of Dec. 10 fast approaching on Wednesday, organizers of the Giving Tree effort in Putnam County need the public's help.

The Giving Tree is a local organization annually serving approximately 300 families and cumulatively more than 700 children during the holiday months. The organization raises funds to provide children and families with both gifts and necessities during the holiday season.

This year organizers say the Giving Tree still has more than 100 tags remaining on its trees at the Greencastle Kroger, Walmart and Goody's for the public to pick up and purchase holiday items for the children listed.

All persons need to do is take a tag, purchase the requested item and return it to the store where they picked up the tag.

Someone will collect the items from each store and make sure they get wrapped and delivered for Christmas.

  • Trees will come down late Wednesday evening. All gifts need to be turned in by Thursday afternoon.
