* At 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, Gurdev S. Powar, 39, Sacramento, Calif., was eastbound on Interstate 70 in the area of the 43-mile marker.

Powar told Lt. Pettit he lost control of his semi-truck crossing Deer Creek Bridge due to the icy roadway. The semi overturned onto the passenger side, blocking both eastbound lanes.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 2:24 a.m. on Sunday, Deputy Mike Downing along with the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a one-vehicle accident that took place near U.S. 40 and County Road 825 East.

Upon his arrival, Downing met with a witness who observed two people get out of a wrecked 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and ask for a ride home. The witness, refused to take them. However, a passerby picked them up and left.

Downing noted that the vehicle was facing east sitting on top of the guardrail on the north side of U.S. 40. A large amount of gravel and the truck parts were scattered across both lanes of the westbound side of the roadway.

The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department helped Downing clear the roadway as he attempted to retrieve as much information as possible. However, since the driver of the vehicle, Matthew J. Lash, 31, Brazil, had left the scene Downing was unable to obtain much before the car was towed from the scene.

Downing was able to contact Lash the next day to find out why he had left the scene of an accident that involved property damage. Lash advised that he was under the understanding that he had 24 hours to report the accident.

Lash said he was westbound on U.S. 40 when he fell asleep driving and crashed into the guardrail. He did not recall when he had fallen asleep. However, he was awakened by the air bags deploying. Once the vehicle had come to rest, he exited the truck, seeing that it was off the roadway and did not appear to be an immediate threat to anyone, he received a ride back to his house from a good samaritan.

Lash also noted that he called the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post early in the morning to find that his truck had already been removed prior to contacting the Sheriff's Department.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 3:19 a.m. on Tuesday, Mark A. Fox, 43, Reelsville, was southbound on Manhattan Road, approaching U.S. 40.

Fox told Deputy Matt Biggs he fell asleep and his car crossed over the northbound lane before leaving the roadway on the east side, striking a fence and coming to rest.

Biggs noted that the 1994 Ford Crown Victoria had become stuck on the fence and Fox with the help of a passerby was attempting to remove it before it was eventually pulled from the scene by a tractor.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.
