PUTNAMVILLE -- There will be several happy children in the Putnam County area this holiday season with 30 refurbished bicycles making their way to deserving families thanks to the Putnamville Correctional Facility (PCF) rehabilitation program "Shifting Gears."

The PCF program is centered on receiving bikes that need to be worked on, fixing them and turning them back into the community. All the work is done by offenders from the prison who are involved in the learning experience.

The bicycles were delivered recently to Cloverdale High School to assist the Future Farmers of America with its 2014 toy drive for Putnam County residents.

Chelsey Meluch, the agriculture teacher at both the Cloverdale high school and middle school, received the donated bikes on behalf of the toy drive effort.

"It is a pleasure to play a part in aiding the community during the holidays in every way possible," PCF Superintendent Stanley Knight said. "This opportunity gives the offenders the ability to have an impact in helping others."
