I-70 Escape Act

Friday, December 12, 2014

Members of the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department work to remove the door from a heavily damaged passenger car involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 43-mile marker, two miles east of Cloverdale. Despite the condition of the car, the female driver managed to escape with only scrapes and bruises, according to reports from the Indiana State Police Post at Putnamville. She was, however, transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance.

  • The drivers door is open. Why are they popping the passenger door?

  • The passenger door was opened because the patient was on the passenger side, there was damage to the console on the inside of the car impeding movement from the passenger to drivers side, and there was a center console the patient would have had to climb over to get out on the drivers side. We take every precaution to not move patients any more than necessary in these kinds of incidents. It is well worth the extra few minutes it takes to setup and complete the extrication of the vehicle from around the patient.
