Bainbridge keeps it brief with police cameras, board appointees

BAINBRIDGE -- Clocking in at under 20 minutes, the Bainbridge Town Council got right to business in discussing personal body cameras for the police department and approving appointees to several positions, among other topics, during its December monthly meeting.

Town Marshal Rodney Fenwick informed the board Wednesday night that the Bainbridge Police Department will be receiving a new camera system, courtesy of the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office, that will be placed on a police officer's body.

The cameras are specially designed for police work and will help provide video documentation of events that may later be used to help verify a sequence of events.

The cameras will not be implemented until policy and procedures for the equipment have been written but the process will begin soon, Marshal Fenwick said.

Meanwhile, the board approved multiple four-year board appointments, including Robert Hensley to the Bainbridge Planning Commission, the Bainbridge Utility Board (re-appointed) and the Board of Zoning Appeals (re-appointed); Tom Hagymasi to the Bainbridge Park Board; Michael Smith to the Bainbridge Planning Commission (re-appointed) and Bobbi Bowler to the Board of Zoning Appeals (re-appointed).

Thursa Evens informed the board of the Bainbridge Improvement Society's plan to construct a large, permanent stage that will be available for use by the community.

No exact dimensions were given but organizers hope to get the project going soon.

"We hope to transpire in January," Evens said.

Barb Flint informed the board that she has a vacant business location and would love to help rejuvenate Bainbridge by putting that building to use.

She said that if the board, or any member of the community has an idea, she is open and excited at the possibility of opening a new business.

"I hate to see Bainbridge deteriorate but we have so many vacant places," Flint said. "There has got to be something that would be a draw and that would but some new life in."

A stove and refrigerator are already in place, Flint said, but the location could be used for any business.

"It's a neat, clean place and I've put a lot of time, effort and money in it," Flint said regarding her enthusiasm of putting the building to use.

In other business:

* The board provided a second reading of town ordinance 2014-5 which provides the town of Bainbridge greater powers in collecting on accounts with non-sufficient funds.

* Annexation of property into the town was discussed briefly but, the conversation was limited to a simple update on the confusion of whether or not a house was part of the annexation. The house was not to be a part of the annexation.

The Town of Bainbridge holds its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Bainbridge Town Hall. Its next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 14.
